Cyanotype Disk Holiday Ornament by Carol Ann Webster

These one-of-a-kind ornaments are truly works of love. I’m crazy about cyanotype on tea bags and I use the flowers I’ve grown in my flower beds in the process.

I make the disks from Paperclay rolled out and cut with a biscuit cutter that’s 2-1/2 inches wide. I hand-stamp the year (2024) with an old typesetter stamp into the wet clay. The cyanotype tea bags are glued to the dry Paperclay disks, I make a hole, and thread yarn or ribbon as a hanger. Then I finish it off with a shiny protective layer of gloss medium.

These ornaments make wonderful additions to the Christmas tree or look beautiful as package decorations. Each ornament begins with an original cyanotype tea bag.

"On the Window Sill" Tea Bag Art - Unframed' by Carol Ann Webster Artist

"On the Window Sill" is a unique blend of tea bag art, textile mastery, and stitching.
The piece measures 8-1/2 inches wide by 13-1/2 inches high.

The centerpiece is a rusted tea bag printed with the artist’s own photography of dried plant materials. Against a backdrop of intricate patterns, a white fabric scrap forms the silhouette of a bottle, while black linen threads form the shape of the stems inside the bottle.

The color palette is a harmonious blend of dark gray, rust, white, black, and khaki. Both machine and hand-stitching techniques add layers of texture and depth to the artwork. "On the Window Sill" is not just artwork; it's a testament to simplicity's beauty, the artistry of using repurposed materials, and the timelessness of hand-made art.
